But Graham, a leather kilt is sooo nice. Phil has a pic of his and it looks excellent. A wee bit on the expensive side though.

BTW, have you had much feedback from the article?
Very little feed-back, Graham. All that I received came on the same day, about a week after the article appeared. I was doing my weekly shop at the supermarket when the girl who sold me my National Lottery ticket giggled and said, "We all saw you in the paper last week and recognised you as 'our man in the kilts'!". A few minutes later, a shelf-filler whispered a similar comment - and walked away. Then, whilst I was loading my purchases on the conveyor at the checkout, a chap behind me said, "You must be the most famous man in Storrington?". Unfortunately, the place was manically busy so there were no opportunities to engage any of those people in conversation. Everyone, including me, was in such a hurry. Sadly, all I could do was acknowledge their remarks in some way and thank them.

There was a mention on BBC local radio the morning of publication. One of the Presenters announced that 'S-----d Hamish' (I have to admit that is how I am known on the airwaves) would not be on air that day, as he was too busy with his Agent arranging his next catwalk appearances!

How about you, and your article? Have you been stopped in the street by autograph hunters?

Not much Hamish, a few people said they saw my picture in the paper, that's about all.

I think that with all my Tartan Day efforts combined, the radio interview, the newspaper article and the dinner with 30 fairly prominent people in the community went a fair way to establish some recognition of kilts here.

There is a lot of reluctance even among those who like wearing kilts.
One friend, when I asked him if he wore his kilt to church said "no way!, I don't want to draw attention to myself". His motives were admirable, but I explained that he would only attract undue attention for a week or three, after that fellow members would not even notice he was kilted.

Regrettably, I am far and away the most kilted man in Tasmania that i know of, I wish I were not. Things will change in time, or else I'll just be seen as a solitary fruitcake

Newspapers amaze me, so much effort goes into to creating news that is so soon forgotten by most.

    Is that a USAK kilt?

I'll check out the photo, but really, leather doesn't interest me, I like the softness and warmth of tartan.

I'm with you on this one Graham. I cannot see the attraction of leather kilts. Tartan, plain, wool, PV, yes - leather, no.

My favourite is a plain navy-blue PV, not the best made, but certainly very comfortable.

Comment this morning whilst out walking my dog by a passing motorist who stopped to say "You're a brave man - but looks good".

No Graham it's an "R" Kilt built by me. The leather is buttery soft and the soft suede is what touches your body. Amazingly enough there is a good swish to it as well. The leather is easy to maintain...no need to worry about pressing the pleats. The ladies love it and are always reaching out to touch the leather. Pricey? comparable to a traditional medium weight 8yd kilt. I wear it most often, I also have three tradtional wool tartan 8yd kilts, 10 denim twill. I just finished building a winter camo which is surprisingly funky. I have a grey brushed cotton twill that I'm working on now which I hope to have finished by lunch time. I wasn't too sure about the fabric when I started...but it 's turning out to be a rather fine looking kilt. ....enough of that...enjoy your day and cheers to your next kilt.

I had a pair of what were advertised to be Kangaroo leather boots, man that was some soft leather, that would be a interesting kilt.
