    Black Tie Event

Escorted my wife to an awards dinner in Washington on the weekend. She was the recipient of an award for her efforts in support of diversity. The dinner was black tie and I elected to go kilted (bless her heart, my wife was ok with that - she is very tolerant of my kilt wearing).

Anticipating that I would be the only one in a kilt and not wanting to be too ostentatious, I decided that I would go with my Argyll rather than my PC. I think that it worked out alright, received a number of compliments and one overheard comment to the effect that it must be a Canadian thing.

I have an event coming up next month myself, (a USCG Aux "Change of Watch" ceremony and dinner), and thought too, about wearing my Argyll (with a neck tie), rather than my PC or even my Braemar. Likewise, I'm considering my Blackwatch kilt for it's dark colors, rather than my bright Buchanan. The evening is for those in uniform who are directly involved, and I don't wish to divert attention from them.

I agree with Ken. Ya look real spiffy Johnny. I especially like the hose. And congratulations to your wonderful bride.

JohnTheBiker, I applaud your restraint. All too often people seem to feel obliged to "overdo the bling" or get dressed "too traditional." You, however, look very sharp!

You look good from here JTB. It's nice that your wife was ok with you wearing your ethnic clothing to a celebration of her support of diversity! Had she not, I would have had to ask that her recognition be rescinded!

Thanks Colin. The Toronto St. Andrew's Ball is coming up next weekend. I was planning on a bit more bling for that event - PC, horse hair sporran, etc.
