Basalt High School Fall Play
This is the cast of our annual Fall Play at Basalt High School, CO. It is a student run production and we are in our ninth season. This year we did a play called Super Freaks and the students did and outstanding job. We got smash reviews for the production. Every year I help out a student director, producer, sound, lights, set design, etc. We do our play as a dinner theater format and involve as many students as possible. This year over thirty students were active in the show. They are a great bunch of young adults. Of course trying to coordinate schedules over the past three weeks was akin to herding kittens, it all worked out. We started the production process back in Aug. and had two performances this past weekend. It was great and we'll do it again next year!

Over 30 high-school students! How did you keep track of them all, ... without assistant coaches?
I assume some were on stage and other back stage. Are those in the picture actors? Anyway, a great looking group of young folks. Whose the guy who looks like John Huston in a kilt and vest? He's looking pretty good.
Do you commute from New Castle to Basalt? That's a pretty long commute, isn't it?

Those are the actors on stage from the play, the rest were sound techs, lighting techs, producer, film crew marketing, set and art design, stage crew, box office and dinner crew from our National Honor Society, computer generated art and writers for the program. Like I said it was, at times, like herding kittens, but they came through for the final product. I can now rest up for the next 9 months and gear up for the next show. AND we made a profit (not much) but we are not doing this for the bucks. I started doing this to give the students an avenue to express themselves and to give them an extracurricular outlet other than the athletic field.

Yes I do the 75 mile round trip every day and love it. Where else do I get to look at scenery the likes of the Colorado and the Roaring Fork River valleys every day. Love it!!

That's great. Good for you. They'll always have fond memories of "Mr. McNulty - that "director in the kilt".
Nothing against "Super Freaks" (sounds like a good play for young people), but have you thought about something Shakespearean, or maybe "The Witlings" (Frances Burney) or "Lovers' Vows" (Elizabeth Inchbald) as featured in Austin's "Mansfield Park"?
Or, have them write a "South-Park style" spoof on Beowulf, or some other iconic legend. It's easy for me to suggest. I don't have to do all the work.

Good point. I've driven down that valley a few times on ski trips to Snowmass, Aspen, and Aspen Highlands (another "good" high school). It is indeed beautiful, even awe inspiring. You're a lucky man!
