Envelopes?

Well, here goes. They say that the only stupid question is one you don't ask.

When I log in to XMarks I go straight to "new posts". There I get a list of new posts and at the left side of the list each post has an envelope next to it. Some envelopes are blue, some are yellow and some are red. What do these different coloured envelopes mean? I've tried search (didn't find anything), FAQs and even working it out for myself, to no avail. I'm stumped and it's been intiguing me for a while.

If I recall correctly, the colors, and whether the envelope is open or closed, tells what is going on with that thread. A blue envelope is a new thread with no replies. A yellow envelope is a new thread with replies, and a red envelope means a "popular" thread, where there have been more than some number of replies for the past X time period. I don't recall the thresholds for either the number of replies or the time period. I can check if you are really interested. Finally, the envelope can be opened or closed. If it is open, you have read at least part of that thread before. Additionally, you can also see a downward to the left arrow overlayed on the envelope, and that means you have replied to that thread at some point.

At the bottom of each page of thread titles is an Icon Legend showing what each envelope means.

Icon Legend
(Open yellow envelope)................Contains unread posts
(Closed blue envelope).................Contains no unread posts
(Open red envelope).....................Hot thread with unread posts
(Closed red envelope)...................Hot thread with no unread posts
(Envelope with lock).....................Thread is closed
(Blue envelope with small arrow)...You have posted in this thread

I should note this Icon Legend doesn't appear on the 'What's New' page of newly updated threads.
