Red face New Memeber/ Burns Supper Info

    Hello all!
I'm Christy and a US midwest transplant to Denver where the rest of my Melrose family resides. I'm interested in learning more and having others to ask questions to as well as finding local outings and gatherings here in the Mile High City.

One night in particular is coming up this week. When I lived in St Louis, I attended several Burns' Night Suppers at the Schlafly Tap Room.
Here is the link to the event page: http://schlafly.com/events/calendar/...4/burns-night/
And here is a link to a video created of the 2010 night: http://youtu.be/oUIVJfHrfDw (The food was absolutely amazing! I love haggis!)

Anyway, I'm looking for something similar here in Denver. I've noticed one taking place at a hotel and wondered if anyone had been. I guess I just miss how intimate the gathering and how aesthetically pleasing the venue surroundings were.

I did find one message from a year ago or more I believe when I first came across the site but it disheartened me because it led me to believe the largest gathering here was haggis free. I guess if I need to make my own and have family only (I know one piper in a punk band for music LOL) then I will. I was just hoping someone out there might no more gatherings this weekend.

    Thanks!
    Christy (Melrose) Lincoln

Welcome, Christy, from Inverness-shire and British Columbia. Sorry I can't help you with a Denver venue; perhaps others can.

I see that the St. Andrew's Society of Colorado is having one on the 26th at the Denver Marriott Tech Center. Cost doesn't look bad as these things typically go, and non-Society members CAN attend at a slightly higher price:

I'd love to get my brother and his family to it (they live in the area), but he has this Scottish sense of thrift. . .

Christy: Welcome from the mountains of northern New Mexico about 500 klicks south of you as the ICBM flies. I hope you enjoy the XMTS forum.

I can't help you with the Denver area, but others (like Dale) undoubtedly will. My family and I attended the Santa Fe Burns Dinner on Saturday. They do the "whole nine yards" of Haggis.

I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

Welcome to X marks and Denver from a fellow Midwest transplant! Dale steered you right, but there is also a nice little Burns Night up at a Scottish Pub near Frisco (The Cala Inn). Not as elaborate as the St. Andrew's Society puts on, but they have a wonderful selection of malts and they do serve haggis for the occasion. This year's has already passed , so you'll have to wait until next year if you want to check it out.

    Red face Thank you all!

Wow, thank you all for the responses!

    Hello back, ThistleDown!

Dale, thank you for the info. I had found that location. I too have a sense of thrift (and student loans) to keep me from attending that location. Finding more and more things I loved about St Louis are more expensive here oddly enough. Not the normal things either. This for instance. The dinner in STL was free as are all the museums and Art Gallery. LOL Guess I'll have to just get used to spending a little more out here. Eeek. LOL

    Why thank you, Father Bill!

John, that dinner sounds amazing. We're still trying to get out of town and make a road trip to the south sometime this summer. So many beautiful landscapes to explore and for me to photograph!

And also, thank you, LitTrog! I have heard of Frisco and wish I had found this earlier. I guess I just assumed most dinner's were the same week all over. Maybe next year I can get my family to head that direction and check it out. Either way, there is most definitely a trip to Frisco in my future to see this Scottish Pub.

Again, thank you all for the warm welcome and information!

    -Christy

Welcome from the highlands, (well, not so high when you think of it), of Central Massachusetts.
