Patent-Leather Formals or Ghillies?
I have a Rabbie Burns Supper to attend on Saturday evening. For non-Scottish occasions, I recently purchased a tuxedo and accoutrements, including these:

Can I wear these with black-tie and kilt? Or, shoud I stick to polished shoes? (I don't have buckled shoes.)

Some would, but I would be inclined to go with the gillie brogues. No one would fault for following the herd.

I like those shoes, and encourage you to wear them, on one condition: you have your picture taken alongside the best-looking lady at the party.

When given a choice, most people will choose.

Sure, wear them! I sometimes wear formal pumps in black patent leather and a grosgrain bow from Brooks Brothers with my Highland evening attire. They especially look rather smart with red and white diced hose.

P.S. - I may affix silver buckles to them at some point, I haven't decided yet!
Enjoy Burns Nicht!

Each to their own, of course, but I only wear my patent leather shoes for white tie events. Black tie events are highly polished black shoes.

That's how I read it too. I suppose those ghillie things could be worn, but in all honesty anything more elaborate is gilding the lily a tadd.
