Thumbs down shoulder pouch to jumbo sporran conversion..

I saw this unique old leather bag in a local thrift store and thought it looked a whole lot like a sporran. It was already adorned with 5 long braids with odd stone beads at the end that were engraved with odd characters. It also had a braided shoulder strap. I thought it would be good to have a larger sporran for when I go on hikes etc.. and need a place to put my wallet, cell phone, keys, and the bulky bottle of sunscreen for my pink highland complexion. It even had a back pocket which should prove handy.

I added a sporran belt loop on the centre back.
I removed three of the tassels and used the leather from them to form the tassel knots.
I then removed the shoulder strap and sewed it to the bag as piping for ornamentation and voila... jumbo sporran.

I don't think I'd wear it anywhere fancy due to the size, but then again, it's not really over the top and is comfortable.

    What do you think?

I have a beautiful old German hunting shoulder bag that is a keep sake and I've been thinking about the same thing. It's about the same size as your example there. I've noted in older photos all manner and sizes of sporran. I'm curious also what might be said on this topic also.
