Finally, my First day out in a kilt!!!

I finally did it! Getting out of the house and into the public eye with my kilt on. Granted, all I have done so far is visit a few shoppes and a few hours at a Starbucks but a lot of folks saw the kilt and no issues so far.
Later today I head back out and give it another go. Some might find it easier to get out and do this but I suppose I'm a bit less extroverted and so it is a wee bit tougher. Step by step.

I can perfectly imagine the dualism in your head between your desire to go kilted into the outside world and the fear for reactions from that world. Repetition is the keyword for becoming more relaxed. As you said, do it step by step. Good luck!

This last thanksgiving day was my first time out and about too. My "excursion" was with friends to a kind of low rent (worn out) country club in the Tulsa Oklahoma area for thanksgiving brunch. I'd have loved to have my "first time" be to a star bucks in Washington state rather than some forgotten CC in "cowboy country. LOL....

But with that being said, I can also say that while even having my debut in such a red neck place, I had two good looking ladies tell me how nice my kilt was, and there were absolutely no (zero) derogatory statements. Actually the only "stares" that I got from guys were the ones where they saw there girlfriends or wives admiring my kilt and my apparent confidence for wearing one.

I'd say that there "looks" were a combination of admiration and jealousy.

Since that thanks giving day (2012) I've been out in and about in a kilt about 7 times, and each time it's just more fun.

What happened is that I've came to understand that when you're wearing a kilt, that it's such an overt visual statement that your a confidant guy, and that "you know who you are", that every one seems to expect you to walk tall, because you SHOWED UP IN A KILT..!!!,,LOL

In the mean time, (whether you read the link that's attached or not) each time you wear your kilt out and about, it gets more fun. Soon (about time #3) you'll start to see that your kilt wearing is fun for other people as well. I say this because I think that most of the looks that you get from men will be of admiration, and most of the looks that you get from woman will be them wishing that their man had the same confidence and since of adventure that YOU (obviously) have.

So....Keep wearing that kilt, and keep having fun doing it.

My first time out,I was hiking in the NC mountains. Everyone I met either said nothing or was complimentary. Look everyone in the eye you meet,say hello and watch the reaction.Most are curious and will be friendly.

Thanks for the story Stan. I'll get used to it and already feel rather good now that I've made the plunge. I have since visited some other places in a different outfit but same kilt and with/without a cap.

And so far one very pretty girl at Starbucks said she loved the kilt!!
