Okay, I seem to have missed the part about Hector Russell and DNA kilt permission. Could someone please point it out?

I kind of find the whole DNA thing kind of goofy. I mean, come on, what are they basing the DNA testing on? Is there some ancient DNA that they're testing against, or are they only basing it off of tests of living people that would claim to belong to a certain ancestry? Sure, you'd find some similarities in certain people groups, but unless one clan's been seriously inbred, there's going to be enough discrepency in DNA between people that I'm not even sure they could limit it to a specific clan.

And using mitochondrial DNA? Come on, mtDNA testing is not reliable at all, and gets kicked out of court all the time as forensic evidence. Plus, it wouldn't tell you which clan you belonged to, since it would only tell you about your mother's DNA, and clan association was through the father.

I'm sure Tom (AC)can give us accurate information about this stuff (and there's a good chance I'm totally wrong; really good.) To me, this seems like a rip off.
