My Royal Air Force tartan kilt was one of Strathmore's 16 ounce. My Leatherneck is a Strathmore 13 ounce. Most pleased with both of them.

A compromise between a 4 yard box pleat or 5 yard knife pleat in 13 oz tartan and a full 8 yard tank in the same weight tartan might be a 6-7 yard Kingussie pleated kilt, although the forward pointing knife pleat edges on both sides of the Kingussie will tend to make it more liable to "sail" a bit in wind or when walking briskly, especially with the 13 oz tartan compared with the 16 oz. But they sure do swing pretty.

Can always ask for a reverse Kingussie - pleats point backwards toward the center.
