Shopping in a kilt and weight loss.

This past weekend I spent the entire weekend kilted. On Sunday my wife and I were shopping at Costco before going to Church in the evening. Our church is very casual but this Sunday I decided to wear my new Ramsey Blue kilt. So I was in my kilt a black dress shirt black hose and ancient blue flashes. While going into Costco a very nice lady asked if there were games in town. I said no just wanted to wear a kilt to church today. She replied " I'm half Scot thank you for looking so nice". Later in the store a different lady runs up to my wife and says "your husband looks great in the kilt". A lot of nice compliments.

Since I purchased my first kilt last year I've lost 45 lbs my goal is 15 lbs. more. Talking about the weight loss with my wife I made an agreement with her. Once I lose the finale 15 lbs and keep it off for a year I will purchase a 8 yard 16oz wool kilt. Until then I will purchase more casual kilts. I'm leaning toward the Black Watch Weathered or anything in the weathered tartans we both love the earthy colors.

A very nice contribution. Not only for the story on its own, but the aspect of kilt addiction is so recognisable.
I wish you a beautiful BW.

I enjoyed your story Rich; thanks for the post. It's fun to just wear your kilt out for no reason other than, you want to and it's so great when people react positively.

I applaud your weight loss and your efforts to continue. You've set a worthy goal for yourself and, I'm sure you feel much better too. I've lost a lot of weight over the last couple of years myself (lifestyle changes) and have one kilt that doesn't fit anymore so, I'm giving it to my son-in-law. I'm satisfied that I'm at my natural size and weight now so, I've taken the plunge and ordered a hand made, 8 yard, 16oz wool tartan kilt.

Well-done on the weight-loss, and good luck! I have a similar deal going with myself - I bought some of figheadair's custom run of the Old Culloden tartan a while back but am holding off on making a kilt out of it until I drop some weight (and hopefully inches from my waistline.)

That is great! I love reading about the positive reactions.

Congratulations on the weight loss. I have a very similar weight-loss goal, but my deal with myself is a bit different. At each major interim goal (10 lbs left on the next one) I will get or make a new kilt as incentive to keep the weight off. And the need to alter my kilts as I lose weight is incentive to learn how to make, and alter, kilts.

Thanks for the story and the inspiriation.

I changed jobs about 9 years ago and just didn't see the weight coming back on. About 27 years ago I scared myself I stepped on a scale it said 305 ouch. I lost 30lbs before I got married and continued to lose 70 more lbs. Wow I was early 40's and at the wieght I graduated from High School. I was referring about 5 to 6 soccer matches a week after work and weekends keeping the weight off. I changed careers and because of having no work schedule, on call 24/7 I had to give up referring. The weight slowly came back with the inactivity. So November 2011 I tip the scales at 284 lbs. I went wow not again. My wife is very athletic and is a soccer referee and H.S. wrestling referee. Together we decided we need to start eating better. So now to March 2012 I've lost 10lbs. Yeah but I need to lose more. Now into this story of weight loss comes my youngest son. He calls home a couple of times a week, he's in the Army at Fort Knox KY. he is 10 lbs over Army standards for his age and height. So I make a wager with him who ever can lose the 10 lbs the fast win $10.00. Well I won did it just over two weeks. I haven't looked back since so far a total of 45 lbs lost and 15 lbs. to go.Then hold that weight for at least a year I plan on maintaining the weight for good and order my 8yd tank. Thanks for letting me ramble
