Hello From Austin, TX
Hello gents,
As a new member of the forums I figured that I would say hello and thank you in advance for the good information that I have already gotten from just skimming the boards. I am sure that I will learn even more as I dig into things!
I am new to the wearing of the kilt, and I bought my first kilt earlier this year (MacKinlay Modern, naturally). I was planning to debut it at an event like the Salado Highland Games in Central Texas in the Fall, but as luck will have it I was invited to a wedding in St. Andrews, Scotland on the 1st of June. I have joked that the fact that I actually own a kilt was the only reason I was invited, but I will take it!
I am in the process of figuring out what exactly I will be wearing to my kilt debut, but right now I am leaning towards a PC jacket, white tux shirt with club collars, a black bow tie, a black formal sporran, black hose and green flashes. I may post a pic or two of the outfit to get some feedback in the near future.
Also, I would definitely appreciate any tips that those of you who live in Scotland about pretty much anything - places to find kilts and accessories, good pubs, places to see, etc. I will be in Edinburgh, St. Andrews, Stirling, and Iverness at different points in my stay.
Thanks again to all for being such a good resource for the wearing of the kilt!
Regards,
Scott

Greetings Scott, and welcome to X Marks from Delaware. What a great opportunity to attend a wedding in Scotland; I'm enveous!
The wedding outfit you describe appears to be appropriate and the choice of black hose is interesting; I think black is a good choice (or perhaps, charcoal gray) and in my opinion, better than white or ecru.
Any way, you have certainly found a home for information, support and camaraderie with a likeminded kilted rabble.

Thank you for the welcomes, gentlemen!
@Nile - Yes, the opportunity to travel to Scotland sort of fell in my lap so I am pretty stoked about it! As for the black hose, I decided against ecru (to avoid the rental look) and the black seems to go well. Other options are navy and tartan green. I will look at charcoal gray at your suggestion. With any luck I won't look like it is my first time in a kilt!
