Kilt hose suggestions
Hey everyone. I'm still learning my away around kilt accessories and I'm in need of some suggestions / advice regarding which color of hose to go with with my Farquharson Modern.

My jacket was passed down to me, so I'm not 100% on it's color, but according to the label its from http://www.burnetts-struth.com/ and seems to be "estate mangers green" or a lovat green.

I was thinking a nice pair of lovat green hose, but my girlfriend commented that it may be too much green. I know its ultimately just personal preference, but I'd still like to get the opinon of the Rabble.

Hey Farquhar, welcome!
I guess your girlfriend is right...
Having a light blue kilt I decided to buy a lovat green day jacket instead of lovat blue to avoid to be too blue... But some like to be tone in tone.
Concerning your hose I would try navy blue with red flashes or if green a bottle green...

I'd go with Lovat green, Lovat blue, red, claret, or mustard coloured hose. I think the red or mustard would look especially smart.

Thanks for the insight guys. Always appreciated!
I think I'm pretty set on the Lovat green hose (at least to start with), but I like the other colors you both mentioned and might see how they look as ties.

A lighter green shade such as lovat green or ancient green would tie in with your jacket and complement the colors of the kilt well. A darker color, such as bottle green or tartan green, or navy blue, would match the colors of your kilt, but I tend to find dark kilt hose worn with a dark tartan kilt to look a little too "bottom heavy" unless you are also wearing dark colors on top - a black jacket, or a dark colored sweater, etc.
If it were me, I'd probably get hose to tie into one of the smaller stripes in the tartan. So yellow or mustard colored hose, or even red. A bright red hose would look great for fancy occasions, and if you wanted something a bit more subtle then go with a darker red or even a claret.
Of course you have the whole range of neutral colors to choose from that will go with just about everything - charcoal, black, grey, or some kind of brown or tan color.

My tartan, MacLeod of Harris in ancient and in darker Wilson colours, is not dissimilar to yours and I find that claret, mustard, and ancient green work really well, although to start with, I would avoid the brighter shades of the colours suggested until your confidence builds . Other greens are worth a go too. Without getting too technical, you might find that if your are wearing your green jacket, then you could overdo the green overall look, with the addition of green hose .

You are going to need more than one pair. Start with the Lovat green and then move on to mustard.
