Memorial Day

Today Americans observe Memorial Day, an opportunity to soberly reflect on those who have given their lives in service to our country.




There are three individuals that I'd like to publicly remember today:




Sergeant David Smith, my wife's first cousin, a Marine who was killed while serving in Afghanistan.







First Lieutenant Nick Madrazo, a Marine who was in my OCS platoon, who was killed while serving in Afghanistan.







Sergeant Chris Hrbek, a Marine I served with at Camp Lejeune, who was killed while serving in Afghanistan.







I am thankful for their sacrifice on our behalf.

SAMS Post 1921 at the USS San Francisico Memorial at Land's End, San Francisco yesterday.The memorial showing behind us is the actual bridge of the ship showing the damage inflicted upon it at the Battle of Guadalcanal when several ship's officers, including the Admiral were killed.

This is what we do on Memorial Day. This year we flew 888 flags of deceased Veterans who lived or have family in the area.
