I wore my kilt as a sidesman today. This is a good thing as I don't have to sing lots of silly hymns. I like genuflecting in a kilt and feeling the encaustic tiles on my knees.

Doesn't Wurzburg have a to-die-for Rococo bishop's palace and chapel with Tiepolo frescos, or am I muddling it up with somewhere else?

Well, I for one would be pleased to have a kilted sidesman... or liturgist!

Like the understated but matching plaid.

I was being liturgical last Sunday in that I was doing to intercessions (prayers for people's needs). I thought it more tactful to wear light khaki slacks as I was upfront. Someone said "why aren't you wearing your kilt?" so I obliged today.

Baroque certainly - sadly I did not get to go on a visit, given the conference, but we did have dinner (all 250 of us) in the caves of the wine cellar which extend under the palace.
    Best wishes - Harvey.

I can tell Early English from Decorated at a glance, but I'm not sure I could tell the difference between baroque and rococo as confidently.

What I meant was the the bishop's chapel is the most elaborately decorated baroque interior I cam remember seeing - the palace with Tiepolo ceiling frescos is austere by comparison.

But nothing like as austere as the church in the background of your initial post. Which is why I was amused as Wurzburg to me means OTT baroque - even the bridge is decorated with curvy statues of saints.

I've been at Walsingham for a weekend pilgrimage to the shrine and wore my kilt the whole time. The bishop shook my hand and said "Peace be with you" and looked down at my kilt and added "That's lovely".

I was asked to serve carrying a candle in one of the processions. I wore my kilt underneath the cassock, which was only possible leaving off my sporran.
