    Colors - Matching

OK, so I'll stop posting pics in the "post your pics" section - when in fact I have a real question.

While I've worn kilts with really, no real thought put into it - just wore/wear because I like them and find them comfortable, the info I've gathered in my very short time corresponding in here has been great - thus while I'm still me - I do appreciate different opinions and respect the vast experience(s) found in here

more amazing is everyone's willingness to share, thus - how about thoughts on what colors can be mixed (in good taste) and yes I realize that taste is very subjective.

BTW - someone already got me on the height at which I've been wearing my sporran (working on that - thanks for the input)

The more colours mixed, the better, in most cases, in my opinion.

I really don't care for the look when people have everything matching. A piper I know has an all-black outfit: plain black kilt, worn with black socks, black jacket, black shirt, black tie. Ugh!

I was at a wedding and a gent had an all-grey outfit.

Traditionally, Highlanders loved colour! And luckily that old aesthetic is still going strong, in many kilt-wearers.

    Guilty but working on it

I've been guilty of drab colors and looking for "neutral" looks,

    But working on it.

Although I admit having just bought a new Grey kilt for an upcoming afternoon at the theater.

thankfully, the Sanger is once again open after closing due to damages sustained in hurricane Katrina, in 2005.

Crikey, you have started something!!!!!! This subject has been covered in many and loooong threads over the years and there is no quick answer other than what OCRichard has said above. Have a look at the two tattersall shirt threads going at the moment and the "less is more" thread that was here not so long ago for some hints. Use the search function for "matchy matchy" threads and perhaps some kind soul might put up a link or two. In the meantime I will see if I can put up a picture to demonstrate just what this traditionally dressed Scot wears to avoid matching colours and this is the bit that YOU will like, no thought at all! What you decide to do is entirely your own affair, but many from your side of the pond have (somewhat reluctantly on occassion ) seen the benifits of avoiding too much matching of colours.

An oft seen picture, I am afraid, but it may give you an idea.

In this picture I have been accused by some of the more mischiefous members here of getting a tad matchy matchy. Well ok the shirt , tie, flashes, pocket hankerchief and a part of the kilt are blue and had I thought about it I might have changed the shirt and tie, but ------.

Jock are you playing top trumps again. I see the new PH is looking good in your second pic and of course I can't see you at all in the first pic as you are bedazzled by the wondrous Mrs JS.
