    Kilts in Vienna

The traditional New Year Concert from Vienna today featured kilted dancers performing the Pizzicato Polka from Sylvia by Delibes.

Although the costumes appear influenced by Dame Vivienne Westwood, the kilts are real enough. I recognised the Anderson Modern tartan but didn't recognise the other which has a lot of pink green and orange and black in it.

For those who missed it and can access BBC programmes it is being repeated tonight on BBC4 from 7pm and the tartan dancing is about 50 minutes in though this is an extended edition of the concert so only an approximate timing.

And the male dancers wore the kilt fairly well from what I glimpsed.

Yes they did and there was an element of humour that would have pleased even Grant Harmsworth.

I watched the PBS program last evening. The female costumes were so off-putting that it was a distraction for me, and I didn't enjoy the dance. The rest of the concert broadcast was wonderful. Having had the rare privilege of actually having attended that concert (01/01/2000) I always look forward to the broadcast. I'm glad the dancing isn't part of the actual concert.
