    Family Information

Attended clan gathering and games in Utah last week and was prevailed upon by the Stewarts to purchase my first kilt. Seeking information about the Malloy family. The Stuarts claim them as a sept. Interested in learning when and under what circumstances this took place. My 5th great-grandfather, John Wesley Malloy, Sr. was born about 1726 somewhere in Argyllshire. He married Effie Smith circa 1743 in Scotland and in 1770 immigrated to North Carolina with his wife and most of his adult children where he died in 1804. His eldest son Daniel, my 4th great-grandfather was born circa 1745, immigrated to America with his father and died in Alabama in 1838. We have a good history of the family from John Wesley Malloy, Sr. onward but would appreciate any information anyone could offer regarding the history of the family prior to John Wesley Malloy, Sr.

My apologies if I am in the wrong place to seek this information. If that is the case could someone direct me to a proper forum?

Hubert, I'm sure that those with more knowledge than I in the history area will be along shortly to assist you on this quest. In the mean time, it would probably be a good idea to go to the Newbie title thread and post a little about yourself as an introduction.

Thanks for your suggestion. I thought I had done that yesterday; obviously not.

I have Malloy down as "Stuart of Bute", which is, of course, a clan with a Chief.

There is also Stewart and Stewart of Appin which are Armigerous Clans and have no Chief.

Thanks for the information, Charles. I had been told the family was a sept of Stuart of Bute. Confirmation is appreciated.
