A short time ago I was walking with my wife through the grounds of Eyam Hall in Derbyshire UK, wearing my usual muted Anderson kilt (which is still fairly noticeable even in muted form) when we passed a bench with a family sitting on it. The wife said "nice skirt" as we passed and her husband immediately said " it is not a skirt it is a kilt" to which she replied "I was not talking about the kilt, I was referring to his wife's skirt." And she was right it was a nice skirt she was wearing, I had already commented on it, but it was an unexpected and unusual pleasure for a complete stranger to also comment on it.
I am afraid the picture does not do it justice.
