I can vouch for the quality of the Colt. Amazing value, although I ditched the wooden sheath and threw together a leather one. I find it much more comfortable to carry that way. Some may find the Colt a bit top heavy with its full tang, but you just have to wear it tucked a bit more deeply in your hose.
As for the Comrie Craft sgians, they are beautifully crafted and well worth the investment. Comparing the two, the Colt is a workhorse, while the Comrie is a thoroughbred. They both have their place, and both are "reasonable," depending on your point of view.

It's true that the Colt needs to tucked a bit more deeply into the hose than some sgians. The stock sheath is OK, but I might try to make a leather one for it one of these days... did you use a pattern or literally "throw" it together?

I traced an outline of the blade on cardboard and then cut a pattern about 1/4 inch larger all the way around. Using the template, I then cut two pieced of leather, glued them together along the edges, sewed around the sheath, smoothed the edges, and finished with some leather treatment. While I usually put a welt in knife sheathes to keep the blade from cutting into the stitches, it would have made the scabbard too thick for my taste. The glue seems to hold the blade just far enough away that it has not been a problem so far. If it ever does cut the stitching, it's an easy task to resew.

Thanks for the details on the sheath, MNlad.
If anyone is looking for a Colt sgian on eBay, FYI sometimes they are just listed as "Colt burlwood knife." I got mine on an auction for less than $20, perhaps because it wasn't listed as a sgian

They can be found on ebay if you search for "skean dhu."

I have one just like you I received with a Ebay Sporran purchase. That sucker is sharp and I love the wood grain. The magnet use to retain the blade in the sheath is great.

They can be found for less than $20 if you look around.
The custom/hand made ones that people are recommending are very nice and would surely put the Colt to shame. For the price, though, it can't be beat

Ordered one. I don't see it yet with kilted-wear but I have a love of good quality knives. Thanks for the link!
