"...But the kilt is a saddening bore
    For he's worn this outfit
    ten times or more
He could spit in the eyes of fools
As they ask him to focus on

    [CHORUS]
Shinty players fighting in the dance hall
    Oh man!
    Look at those clansmen go
    It's the freakiest show
Take a look at the Throwers
    Tossing the wrong stone
Oh man! Wonder if he'll ever know
He's in the best selling show
    Are there Pipes on Mars?"

    With apologies to David Bowie

Over the battle - A diamond in the ash
    Of the ultimate combustion-My panache

When he sang 'how about a little music' - THAT sounded like yankee doodle, perhaps that is where the confusion arose?

Maybe it was an unconscious attempt to represent both sides.... or a rebellion against having to tootle Dixie.

Thank you Anne for the keen observation. Your skills do exceed the mastery of the kilt. How does he get the kazoo tone to his pipes?

In my lifetime I have ventured into more than one of the mysteries - but the making of musical instruments was not one of them.

Faced with the problem though - I suspect that the sound was dubbed and there was a kazoo involved.

Wow, I guess I am not the only one who has seen this movie. I got the DVD and remember the makeshift pipes he made to liven up his lonely situation there.

    Kilted Friday

One more note about Robinson Crusoe on Mars; if you watch further into the movie on YouTube, you will see that his alien friend "Friday" wears a kind of a kilt.
