Blupiper, you remind me of a black-and-white movie shown when I was in kiddie school, which told the viewer that Detroit was the only US city that looked south to Canada.
How often does the river freeze over?
By the way, at the Rideau skating party, did anyone wear the Sir John A MacDonald tartan? It would have been most patriotic.
Regards,
Mike

I went to the one in Calgary. A little cold but there were lots of people out with their kilts on.

Looking good, Jason. Love that your hose and sweater go well with your kilt. Everything just right to wear with skates.
Noticed that you are wear layers but no coat - so typical of someone who is used to COLD. Hang in there, spring is on the way...

Which just goes to show that those deep-voiced individuals who provided the commentary in such movies were not infallible.

Sir John A's Great Canadian Kilt Skate
Good morning, kilt enthusiasts. I'm happy to join this forum.
I was the organizer of January's kilt skate in Ottawa -- thanks to the 200 people who showed up in kilts, and those who showed up in similar kilt skates in Montreal, Winnipeg, Saskatoon and Calgary.
The Scottish Society of Ottawa helped set up skates in these five cities to celebrate the bicentennial of Canada's first Prime Minister, Sir John A. Macdonald. We're trying to gauge interest as to whether we should make this an annual event.
Any thoughts?
Yours aye...

Welcome to the forum from Calgary. Unfortunately I didn't hear about the kilted skate here in Calgary until I read the XMarks post. I would have participated.
Cheers

Well met new friend Kilt Skater. Thank you for joining us and putting together a fun event. I'm sure there will be more interest in the future as kilting becomes more common. (If this site is any indication.) Welcome from Oxford, Mississippi.

The Calgary kilt skate was organized by the Optimist Clubs of Calgary and High River. They put together their event within just a couple of months, and are thinking about having another one next year, with more time for planning. I know they're reaching out for partners for next year. Let me know in a private message if you would like to get in touch with the person in charge.
