The kilt looks really great, Bubba. Good looking tartan as well! Did you have to do much hand sewing on it and was there a selvedge on the fabric? Nice job! 8)

Blu, it's a generic fabric store tartan pattern as far as I know. Looks nice pleated to the sett but looks like crap pleated to the stripe. I hand stitched the whole thing since the pleats were really too thick to run through the machine. It wasn't as tough as I thought it would be. There isn't a true selvedge, the edges are lockstitched. Looks pretty good anyway though and it'll hold up real well. I spent a couple weeks making it between doing other things and I'll start the next one later in the week.

That's a nice looking kilt, Bubba. When you posted the pic of the tartan on your pleating table, it looked a bit magenta-ish to me (flourescent lighting?). But seeing the new pics with it in kilt form (and perhaps because of the outdoor lighting) the sett looks very handsome.

Nice pleats, nice tartan, NICE KILT! I also took the time to check out the jumper you made for your wife. Very nice as well. I'll bet that she loves it.
I know what you mean about ruining a good hobby. I used to absolutely love cooking and baking. I sought formal training after which I cooked professionally for a number of years before quitting to raise the kids. I am now more of a slave to the kitchen then ever, and it has ceased being much fun. Going from hobby to obligation does change things.

Start with cheap fabric. Hit the fabric stores and check the sale/clearance racks. The first kilt or two you will make some mistakes. The best thing to do is just go for it, take your time and don't rush. You'll be glad you did it.

Bubba,
Good looking kilt.
I like the tartan. Just because it is'n't registerd doen't mean it's not good.
