I have recently come across a vintage fox stole, and since I'd never buy one, I thought I'd try my hand at a Full Mask sporran. I've looked through other threads regarding construction and design etc, but can't find any info on how they are kept closed. I wouldn't want a press stud, as that would deform the shape of the head (fortunately my stole has a "low profile" taxidermy mould, so it won't be too bulbous), so are they generally magnetic? Would the weight of the flap be enough to keep it shut without any closure device? Cheers in advance for any information, whether from a DIY adventure, or a commercially made sporran. Cameron

I don't know what method is normally used but a magnetic 'snap' would probably do the job. http://www.craftsy.com/blog/2015/02/...agnetic-snaps/

My Kate McPherson full mask does not have a snap enclosure of any sort. The head assembly lifts up to expose the pouch interior. The head is long enough that you'd have to stand on your head (in a kilt) to have anything fall out.
My full mask Muskrat likewise has no closure. The weight of the flap alone, keeps it closed plenty well enough.

Thanks guys! I rather thought that might be the case. I have some nice supple leather (reclaimed off an old couch) which I'll be putting to use. I think a $14 sporran sounds like a winner! Cheers, Cameron
