    UK Snap Repair Advice Needed

I got my UK blue denim today after just under an 8 week jones. Its beautiful, better looking than the pics on line.

However, the Ol' Coyote continues to dog relations between UK and me.

The left center apron snap arrived busted where it tries to penetrate 7 layers of denim on the front apron.

UK HQ is sending replacement snaps and suggesting I find a snap person to repair it. I'm in a remote frontier town of 7,000...best suggestion was a boat upholsterer, which we got some of....have visions of responses when I take the kilt in and ask for help...

These are the copper color snaps that go with the denim UK...for some reason had thought you could whack them with a hammer...

    Any suggestions, experience, appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Ron

Given you're in a small town, they gave you good advice. I'd add a shoe repair shop to that. Otherwise, if you have a craft store nearby you could pick up a snap setter then drill out the old snap and set the new one yourself.

Ron since you have a number of UK's me thinks this tool will come in handy. It's made by craftool and you can order it online from Tandy Leather. the code number is 8105-00 This will allow you to set #24 snaps as well as #20 snaps good for double cap rivets and speed rivets. It's on sale till the end of the year for $11.70 (Canadian) I think around $8.00 US This is a durable set of tools. I have used it for over a 1000 snaps. I have now graduated to a kick press for the job. So they will mail it to your door quicker than your next kilt order. In Arizona the toll free number is 800-668-5174. I strongly recommend you get this. It's easy to use and the domes will look great.
    Cheers

Thanks Robert...guessing those front apron snaps are one of those two sizes...

Now I'm wondering why UK HQ didn't suggest that...oh well, almost always an adventure.

Don't know whether its the Ol' Coyote or just the way it is but so far all of my problems with kilts of the 18 I've ordered so far have been with UK...yet they make a great product and have a fun corporate culture...

Looking at the bad snap, could have been the snap manufacturer's defect...but that's what final inspection departments are all about...

Have one more UK on order, due in a few weeks, then I think I'll take a breather for a while and let my plastic cool....

It would probably be the 24 as that is the strongest for the application.
It's funny you mention the blue denim as that is what I'm working on now. Just finished one with contrasting yellow stitching with black leather and nickle hardware. The other will have the same stitching but with brown straps and brass hardware. Almost getting caught up with orders. Have a great weekend

Thanks Robert...appreciate your help. Found some stuff over on the UK Yahoo board too. Guess I'm not the first guy to have snap trouble out of the chute with UK denim kilts.

Fishing around on the Tandy site was looking at conchos...wondering about adding conchos to the denim....have found some nice conchos at Western shows, but always put them on leather...suppose I could add a leather backing piece...gotta find better looking conchos than what Tandy offers though.

Depends how they are fastened. If they are riveted shouldn't be a problem if screw backs I would consider leather or a fuseable interface. Happy surfing
