Not a beret! It's a Balmoral bonnet. It's somewhat similar to a beret, but the Balmoral has the signature toorie on top, a cockade over the left temple, and ribbon tails at the rear closure (which can be tied in a bow or left long). That particular one in my photo is a relatively inexpensive model from Glengarry Hats. A step up in quality would be a Robert Mackie.
And yes, it's a Colquhoun clan badge on the cockade.
