    The Gathering

For everyone that needs accommodation in August, I called around and found a good deal on hotel rooms, if you guys want to share a one bedroom suite for 99 Cdn dollar. That is a flat rate and it sleeps up to four people.

Let me know ASAP. They are going fast and I promise the sales manager that I will get back to him in 2-3 weeks.

If you have a budget, let me know. I can call around town on your behalf to look for a good place to stay.

and this hotel is only a 20 minutes train ride away from downtown Vancouver.

Organised Tour of Vancouver will be available to those who wants to see the usual Vancouver Tourist Attraction.

Just remember to bring a pair of comfortable shoes.

    I'm really bummed out.

I can't make a decision on the Gathering for a while. I am applying for faculty positions that begin in September, and I have no idea how long the interview/review process will last (or how or when the move will occur).

If I have to, I will have to make my own arrangements.

Sorry I can't commit at this point.

    Troy

Anyone interested in meeting in Seattle and then sharing a car to Vancouver and maybe a suite here [thanks Raph!]? That may be the only financially feasable way I can go.

    Jimmy what are your plans?

I am meeting Raphael on Saturday afternoon, and I am sure between the two of us, we will be able to find a few more options for people.

FOr those people who are travelling from the US, it will be cheaper to stop at Seattle and drive up. It is very common for the Vancouver People to drive down to Vancouver to catch a flight.

Beerbecue, I sympathise, I'm likely doing some work at a summer camp down in Pennsylvania this summer, but I don't know if my session ends before the gathering.

If you don't have any intention to visit Seattle, why don't you book your flight to Bellingham Washington instead? The drive will be much shorter, about 1.5 hours.

There is also option in catching a shuttle bus to Downtown Vancouver. Here is a link, if anyone is interested.

I've done a few searches and for Sarah and I to get flights it will be the best part of £1500. Sorry chaps till I know what my earning potential over summer is I can't/daren't book.

Yes, the best fares I have been able to track down are a little over £700 return from Gatwick to Vancouver. It has made me think twice, I have to admit but, as I have not had a holiday since I was in the USA 18 months ago, I'll have to go with it. However, at my age (! ), I am not prepared to rough it with the accommodation either, and that will be at least the same amount again. If I cannot do this trip comfortably, then I'm not doing it at all!

Only TWO tinnies, Rhino? I'll be there for two weeks, so I reckon that more than a couple will be in order, don't you? Yes, you can rely on me to uphold the good name of Great Britain.
