"Newbies" Section
Okay. It may take another "Moderator" or someone with a load of time on their hands, but it might be nice to have the "Newbie" section actually post each and every new member's name as a new thread. The "title" would be the new member's name, and we could welcome him/her at that point. If someone's profile is in our region, we could tailor the response to them. Right now, not too many take the initiative to post there... and that's a shame. This might just be the cattle-prod to get them involved faster.
It would be an original way to make everyone feel at home here, and keep them coming back.

The only prob I have with that Jimmy is that only about half of those who sign up are doing so to become active. A lot are just joining so they can keep up with the goings on.
I respect that b/c I am a member of many forums where I do not post.
I think if we welcome every single new person we would have a lot of dead posts. Also it shows them at the bottom as the newest member even if they arent active yet.
Anyone else have thoughts on this?

Completely agree with you Hank. Well it would be nice to welcome every new user (some have tried), some of the new members join simply to gain access to the members only areas (galleries, off topic, etc) and may never post.
I too have done this on a few other forums.

Think its a good idea, but not one that's needed. Seems to be working okay.
At least for my besotted brain there was a learning curve to learn the board. Not sure if I'd been posted there I even would have known it...
When I finally figured things out did post there and enjoyed the "diving in."
Hell, I don't know....

I can just confirm what Ron is writing, at least that way it goes for me.

Another thing that would be nice would be to have some of the Classic chestnuts like "Kilt dos and Don'ts" and "What Tartan to Wear" as stickys. They're informative and often very entertaining as well as a great way to meet some of the rabble.

Do's and Don'ts
I for one particularly like Majdan's idea on do's and don'ts.

Anytime a board can be improved for the betterment of the community is a good thing. Having said that, I have to agree with Hank - there would be a truck load of dead posts. But I also think Majdan has a great idea.

as a NOOB, i can say that there is high value in lurking for awhile. it gives one the opportunity to understand the culture of a group before jumping into the action.
