New booklet: Advice for first time kilt wearers

To all of you who suggested that I take my article, "Matthew Newsome's Patented Advice for First Time Kilt Wearers" and produce it in a booklet form... I have taken you up on the suggestion.

This is an expanded and illustrated version of the article you can find on my web site. Basically, I sat down and went through everything that I discuss with a client who is interested in getting his first kilt. This way, before they invest hundreds of dollars in a kilt, they can invest a few dollars in this booklet and go into it better prepared.

Suggested retail price is $8.95. You can buy individual copies from the Scottish Tartans Museum or my own web site. If any vendors are interested in wholesale orders, contact me privately.

    Thanks!
    Matt

Congratulations, Matt. I believe I was one of those who suggested you should do this and I am very pleased to learn that you have now produced the booklet - and so speedily too.

Your own website did not want to know that I was ordering a copy, so I moved over to that of the Tartans Museum and have placed my order there.

I look forward to receiving my copy and to re-reading your original words, together with the additions.

    Many thanks.

Hamish -- thanks for the order. It went out in the mail today!

I'll have to take a look at albanach.org and see why the order page there might have been giving you trouble....

    Aye,
    Matt

    Matt,

Did you stay traditional, or have you included advice on contemporary kilts?

Just browsing thru this thread and liked what I saw.
Went ahead and ordered my copy to add to my library.
Now the interesting part to see how much -or- how
little I am doing right in wearing a Kilt. Ham's
recommendations are always a sign of a noteworthy
    item!

    Ron (and R.M.Anderson),

If you go to Matt's own website at:

    www.albanach.org

you'll find a link, seven items down in the centre of his home page, to his previous article which bears the same title as his new booklet.

That article, I believe, forms the nucleus of his new publication. Matt has now added illustrations and further text.

It was because of the good sense and advice Matt dispenses in the article that I ordered a copy of the new booklet.

When I started college one of my uncle gave me a book on how dress for the business world. It covered topics on how to dress for every imagineable situation, like how to dress for interviews, dinners, and work. Even the book was written in the 70's but most of the basic 'dress code' remain the same. I found the book some what useful, because coming for a very casual and libearl life, the book helped me to land my first job.

I am gald that some one in the kilt industry decided to write a book how how kilts can be dressed in the Contemporary world. It will help the orgniary people to discover kilts are no longer for weddings or that specail events. It can also be used in business setting and in meeting new people in bars/pubs/clubs. I am not sure you have covered this topic, but sometimes, you also get free drinks because you are in a kilt.

I think every Kiltmaker should have them on sale at their check out counters or include the book for the first time kilt purchaser. If not for various forum and having kilt wearers as friends, I probably will not venture out to Tartan kilts and have interest in learning the 'proper' ways to wear them.

Good Work, Matt. I look forward in reading it.

Great Idea Matt I read what you had written on your site.

It modernizes the kind of Quaint "Thompson Book"
I'll put a link to the book on my site.People are always full of questions when looking for their first kilt.

On the other hand I just waltzed into a shop and ordered mine . Then I found the "Thompson Book". Luckily I'd without knowing it choosen a good company to buy my first kilt from. The rest is ....History....
