Kilted and Honored in Hippie Land

About 25 miles up into Utah from where I camp is Paria Outpost BBQ. Sits in the beautiful Paria River canyon.

Its owned by an old hippie, still Rainbow Family, couple who serve all you can eat BBQ on Friday and Saturday nights. Local musicians are invited to play for the diners in exchange for a free meal.

The owners, and many of us addicted-to-BBQ customers show up in tie die shirts.

After a day on the river yesterday I showed up with my lady wearing a tie die shirt and my caramel UK workman's and Teva sandals.

The lady singer for her supper does humourous, fun songs like, "I've seen your aura and its ugly."

She saw me kilted and dedicated a song to the kilted, tie-died, old hippie in the audience.

Then she sang the song about the drunken kilted Scot who passes out on the street and is found by the two young ladies who decide to answer the ancient question and are so impressed they leave him with a blue ribbon.

All done in fun and friendship and a wonderful salute to kilts

Lol ahh yes, the scotsman. great song. I love a comic strip someone drew awhile back, about the first time someone wears the kilt, and his wife and wife's best friend play a prank on him after he passes out. he goes into the porta-john and all you hear is

    "what the... Honourable mention?!?!"

I love it when musicians dedicate songs to you whilst kilted, it is such a wonderful feeling. Quick question Ron did it get you free BBQ?

No free BBQ for me, just for the musician for her songs.

The hippie owners did encourage my lady and I to stop at their remote home on the drive home to let their dog out and enjoy their hot tub. We accepted that offer.

So got time in a moonlit hot tub up on East Clark Bench, Utah...

    Sounds like a great time.

The only time anyone dedicated a song to me in the kilt was 3/17/05 and all I remember was them asking me to come up and show off the "I F*** SHEEP" shirt. The rest is a blur, sadly.

No, this wasn't Barleyjuice. This was some other band at Finnigan's Wake that I was too inebreated to remember.

yes I wondered that, when I was a young hippie back in the 70's everyone was vegetarian!

Tie-dye, wow, that takes me back, but have you noticed how these things come around every so often?

My daughter wears bell-bottomed jeans with coloured inserts....just like I did (but I still wish I'd know about kilts back then).

Glad you had a great time!

Come to think of it Steve and Susan are always working so hard I'm not sure I've seen them eat. They cook up a spread of BBQ briscut, ribs, and chicken. Then have a full salad bar, deserts, spuds, etc. They have BBQ salmon on Friday nights and pizza on Sat nights.

Cool thing, on Sat night if there's food left they give it away for folks to take home.

Tie dies and kilts are my "uniform" for Paria Outpost.
