    Thumbs up Big Comfy Couch

I was channel surfing this morning and found this pre-school children's show on the Treehouse network. It also airs in reruns on YTV. What stopped me was "Uncle Chester", one of the show's characters. I only caught a few minutes of the show, but he is a bit of a Sherlock Holmes type, except that he was wearing a kilt and kilt hose! It appeared to be the yellow "Loud Mcleod" tartan. I did an online search of the show to see if this was his regualr attire, but didn't find very much. Just thought it was interesting to see kilts exposed to young children. :-)

I have seen that before too Al, of course I have not been forced to watch the show lately. There are benefits to not having cable.

    Al,

If a pre-school TV series called 'Balamory' ever gets as far as your part of the world, it is well worth watching. It was shot in Tobermory (Isle of Mull), and one of the main characters, Archie the inventor, always wears a kilt. I don't suppose there is a pre-school kid in Britain who does not know about Archie and his kilt. In fact I read that whenever young kids see a man in a kilt, they think it must be Archie. Perhaps it will lead to young boys wanting their own kilts to be like Archie. We can but hope.

Ive always had my misgivings about "archie the inventor" , he lives in a large pink castle, wears a pink sweater and a kilt with pink stripes has a friend called "nobby" and is often found in the company of young children!, maybe he needs to rethink his image ! Balamory is Politically correct to the extereme, the afore mentioned Archie, a black american painter called "Spencer" , a camp policeman called "PC Plum" , a black lady who is a fitness fanatic, a disabled geordie lass, and a scots lady mechanic -but kids love it and Mull is the star of the show!! diversity was never more fun!!

Ah, but Miss Hoolie (who runs the childrens' nursery) manages to keep them all in order, even Archie with his 'pink' obsession. I am afraid that political correctness is the norm these days, but at least pre-school boys have been introduced to the fact that men and boys can wear kilts, in a very matter-of-fact sort of presentation, so they won't think twice about it if they see men or boys wearing kilts, and may even want a kilt themselves. I think the series has done some good in that respect.

Rob (who has been known to invent things, but whose kilt does not have any pink in it - see Avatar)
