Sorry for what asking about what might seem obvious ...

36" waist kilt. 40" waist. What are my options?

    kilt help

Hey BJ! Consider relocating the buckles on the right side. This might get you a little more room. If it is a modern kilt, there will probably be no hope in removing a pleat, but you could have a gifted seamstress take a look at it. Try the buckle thing first though. Best of luck to you! Cheers! -- Ry

You will most likely have to move the strap on the under apron, as well.....

For 4 inches, though, I have a feeling that just moving straps and buckles won't be enough.......

    Ebay. Bearkilts.

Thoufgh I'm not sure traditional kilts get their value on Ebay. Too many crappy clones out there I think.

JHiggins told me "Sorry can't be done. Not enough material."...

If they told you there is not enough material in a 36" waist kilt to have it remade to a 40" waist, all that means is that they don't want to do it.

I'm assuming this is a standard 8 yard kilt, right? So it realistically probably has between 7 and 8 yards of cloth in it.

If I can make a kilt from 4 yards of cloth for a man with a 40" waist, then you should easily be able to re-make your 8 yard kilt to fit you.

They might mean that it could be more effort than it's worth -- but don't let them tell you it can't be done.

    Aye,
    Matt

    That's what I figured...

It's not my kilt (yet), so I don't know how many yards of material it is... I'll just have to work with it once it's in my grubby hands.

    Unhappy J. Higgins...

I'll move this to more appropriate thread if need be, but I have to say that I have not been impressed with J. Higgins's customer service lately. I won't go into details, but the last couple of times I've talked to them on the phone, the tone has been somewhat dismissive.

I realize J. Higgins serves a need, and I'm sure they do good for the pipe band community, but I've found other places when I need Scottish "kit".

    Cheers,

    Todd
