Hi Raphael. Karen and I are still hoping to attend the Gathering. I should be able to snag 4 days off for it. However, we decided we won't be camping. Do you have a list of hotels/motels in the area?

Good choice, there should be a shuttle or taxi stand near by to get into downtown fairly easily. Besides I don't think Bear's place is too far from there.

Thanks for the info, guys. I'll have a look into that hotel.

There's a pub on the ground floor and an express bus nearby that gets you downtown in 20 - 25 minutes.

Alrighty! I just made my reservations at that hotel for the 4th, 5th, and 6th. Now all I have to do is manage to get 4 days off from work, but that shouldn't be too much of an issue.
Aside from the evening activities on Friday the 5th, is there anything planned for the daytime?
Oh...we're driving out, so we can shuttle a few people from that hotel to the events if need be.

Whilst on the topic of hotel locations and ease of transportation during 'The Gathering':
Dave W and I are booked into:
Days Inn - Vancouver Metro
2075 Kingsway/Victoria Drive,
V5N 2T2
from July 31st to August 13th
The hotel claims that it is 10 minutes from Downtown Vancouver and is within walking distance of Skytrain - but they don't name a 'station'!
Can any of you 'locals' confirm that Skytrain is the best way to travel around to all 'The Gathering' events being planned?
The original Calendar of Events, as featured on Bear's website, gives the impression that we'll not have much time to ourselves during those two weeks, so we believe that the Skytrain will be adequate for our needs - are we correct?
Any comments or advice would be much appreciated. This is going to be an expensive two weeks and we wouldn't want to make matters worse by having to take taxis too frequently!!

If I remember correctly, you guys will be near the Broadway and Commercial skytrain stations. Commercial drive is a pretty cool little street. An interesting mix of Italians, Croatians, Hippies, and Beatniks. It is the best place in Vancouver to get an authentic Italian Cappucino. Great fruit stands as well for some healthy foods. But if you get bored of Downtown, you can come visit me out in the wilds of Coquitlam.
As far as I know there is nothing going on the Friday before the Dinner, but there is plenty to keep you all amused. The Saturday has the festival in the park during the day and the Kilt night in the evening. I am hoping to bring 3-4 kilt virgins out for that evening. Just trying to find kilts for them right now.
