My Fabulous Gay Wedding
My Fabulous Gay Wedding is a new show that hit the Canadian airwave for the first time last night. It is hosted by Scott Thompson and it was definately a funny show.
Last night, Scott and his Minnions were planning a wedding for this gay couple and He wanted to give them a scottish theme wedding. He went to the couple's apartment wearing the kilt, Prince Charlie Jacket and vest. and Yes, he had a bagpipe as well. Apparently, he knows how to play!!!
ALthough the couple wanted to get married in Tux, but the wardrobe consultant dragged them to Hector Russell Toronto for kilt fitting. But One of them wasn't sure about the kilt. He was pleased with it, but once he was told that he doesn't need to wear underwear, he turned around and loved the idea.
The one disappointment of the show is that Scott Thompson managed to get Ashley McIssac to perform at the wedding, but he performed in his pants!!

I am a huge Scott Thompson fan! I would love to see this show...
I will probably have to wait for a DVD release, or my move to New York, where I may be able to pick up some Canadian airwaves!! Very few cable companies carry Canadian TV (what ever happened to SCTV, or KITH reruns)... It is not even easy to get the BBC in my current market..
Sounds like the show is a hoot!!

You are so right about rampant neo-puritanism pervading the USA. Ever since Tom Hanks won an Oscar for Philadelphia, it's been well-nigh impossible to see anything other than fundamentalist Christian images on TV. We have no programs like Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, Queer Eye for the Straight Girl, Queer as Folk, or The L Word. There are no 8-years-running sitcoms with gay main characters, and there are no gay supporting characters to be found in any American TV program. Any such show that might barely make it onto the air will be crushed by such ratings bonanzas as Revleations. It's just channel after channel of dour, jowly men wearing weird hats with buckles on them.
How fortunate that we have Canadian TV to enlighten us. We should all be grateful.

That was quite a funny show.
I did find it funny that both guys didn't originally want to wear a kilt (there were Scottish roots), as they may have come across as feminine and stereotypically gay. However when both tried on the kilts, they commented on how butch they both felt.
Both of the men looked good in their kilts and represented them well. Let's remember, kilts are for guys in general.
The only reason this show wouldn't run in the US, is because Canada allows same sex marriage, where as the US does not.

Absolutely right! That's why there would NEVER be a miniseries run on Bravo called Gay Weddings, and why this same miniseries would never be released on DVD. You just can't DO that in America. We would NEVER broadcast anything contrary to the way things are.

Where I grew up, we received one Canadian station (CFPL-TV, from London, Ontario). You have to admit, Ugly Bear, that there is one major gap in American television that only Canadian stations are willing to fill: Curling. I want Curling on my TV!
(In defense of this thread, curling is a Scottish sport that is often performed in a kilt. I assume it is also performed by gay men, who may or may not be able to get married and/or watch gay marriage on television in American and/or Canada. But they can't watch curling here, darn it.)

Huzzah! Curling! This really is about kilts now! Whew!
But what about caber-tossing, stone-throwing and weight-hefting? I think we'll have to spin-off our sports channels to about the level of ESPN-99 before we get those.
We've got the Genesee Valley Highlands Gathering this weekend and ... (leaves to check listings) ... nope, no curling. But they have stones, hammers and cabers, both pro and ameteur competition. Now that ameteur caber toss is appealing ... maybe I'll enter, just for the spectacle of my internal organs exploding out my back as I attempt to lift the caber. I'd make the front page of the Local section, and maybe even get a few sympathy points in the competition.
We used to get CJOH over cable. We were always astonished at how quiet Canadian TV was compared to the USA. ("See, Mom, TV CAN be quiet!") But we never saw any curling. No Highland sports of any type, in fact. That was the '80's. Canadian TV has since, sadly, turned up the volume.

Except in Massachusetts where same-sex marriages are legally performed and recognized. And unless I am mistaken, a marriage recognized by one State is respected as a marriage in the remaining States.
Kevin
P.S. Although there is a law before the Canadian Parliament that will make same-sex marriages legal in all parts of Canada, at present they are legal only in most of the Provinces.
