New Freedom Kilt
OK you chaps, at the moment it's taking something special to get me logging on to the Internet (where you fellows find the time to pop in here on a daily basis I shall never know!!). No offence but since I've been restricting my on-line hours, I have come to the realisation that there is a life outside my windows!! Things like chatting to the neighbours, ringing my friends, comuning with nature, and so much more. But, enough of all that...........
The "something special" that causes me to join you this evening is the arrival of my very first Freedom Kilt from Steve in Victoria, BC. He measured me for this on 9th August whilst I was over there during the Vancouver 'Gathering', and it was delivered just a couple of days ago. Was the wait worth it? You bet it was.
These are the first three photos I have managed to take of this wonderful garment (I do hope they 'work' here. I've taken them with my brand new digital camera which is three times as powerful as my previous one, but I fear the images are still too large although I have resized them!)
This Freedom Kilt is in Steve's 'casual' style and is a full 8 yarder in Charcoal grey poly-cotton. I will post my review of it in the relevant section in a few days - when I have been able to give it a thorough test run!
In the meantime: Thank You Steve - I am thrilled.
[Note to Hank: That makes it 57!]

Hamish, I've been waiting for photos of this kilt.
You do take a great photo, you look good in anything you wear (even that rainbow kilt).
The quality of the photos is tops, what camera did you buy?
The kilt looks good on you. I'm still deciding whether I like the buttons, I prefer straps, and I like a selveged edge rather than hemmed.
Just my personal preference.
It looks well made and the colour in nice, smart enough to wear a jacket with!

Oh, Graham, you do know how to flatter a chap! Many thanks all the same, and thanks too to Bryan and Jewddha. It really is nothing more than accessorising and colour-co-ordinating with care and attention!
The new camera? Well, it is an upgrade on the previous one which has begun to have a mind of its own - but then, I have given it a pretty good work-out over the past three years or so. The new one is a Fuji FinePix S9500 and it cost me more than two average-priced 8 yarder strome kilts - what a sacrifice, I've made ;). It has many more features than the FinePix 6900Zoom, such as 9 million pixels against 3 million, and it will take me a long time to get used to using it.
The Kilt? Like you, I had reservations about the buttons before I saw a Freedom Kilt 'in the flesh' whilst I was in Canada, and I have to say that they actually look 100% better than they photograph. As for the hem: there is a little puckering, but I'm sure that will disappear when I have worn, and pressed, the newness out of the kilt, and you don't really get a selvedge edge with cotton or poly-cotton, in my experience.
Early next week, I'll give my report on it.

A good look Ham!
I'm sure you'll be as pleased with Steve's work as I've been. Really do appreciate the pics.

I'll add my 2 cents (pence!) worth. I also think it looks great. In some ways reminds me of the gray twill Uk mocker that is no longer available. Not comparing the 2 as I have never seen more than pictures so hold your comments! I have actually ordered a UK mocker in their heather gray which should look similar. The buttons are similar to the AK I just received, and like Graham I was not sure whether I would like them. It turns out that they are a pretty nice way to close the kilt and very easy to deal with. The fact that the closing comes so far down the apron also helps with breezes. Not much chance of a wind fly-up!
And Graham, the hem looks much better than the raw, overstitched selvedge on my new AK!

Hamish,
I really don't know how you do it, because every time you attain a new kilt, it is always awesome.
