    Hose tops

How and with what does one properly wear diced hose tops. Are spats always used?

Rick, Hose tops are mostly worn with military and band uniforms. I would say that 99% of the time they are worn with spats or gaters. About the only other way they could be worn is with boots or high top shoes as you wouldn't want the space between your regular socks and the hose tops to be seen. Some companies now sell the full length diced hose that can be worn with any shoe. Check the J. Higgins web site!

I agree with ByDand. You need something to connect the hosetops with the boots. In the regiment I was in, we wore olive puttees with olive hosetops with our day uniforms, and white spats with our diced hosetops for dress. The puttees are actually pretty good to wear; they give lots of ankle support. The spats, on the other hand, were always a pain to get on and off. If you want to wear diced hose, then I would buy the complete hose so you can wear them with shoes, rather then just the hosetops.
