I think that it's doable, some can pull off things that others can't so why not this?

Ron, thanks for pointing that out. I thought I had seen that pic before.

I checked out:
http://www.hamiltondrygoods.com/sock.html
they have a natural cotton sock $8 and I bet that coule be tie-dyed.
Has anyone gotten their wool socks and how thick are they?
Do I need to start a new post?

Wool is actually really easy to tiedye- you have to use natural fibers anyway.
Here's an article from one of my favorite knitting sites, it's about dying skeins of wool, (with Kool-Aid, natch) not socks, but the theory is the same.

I 've got a pic somewhere from one of the Celtic festivals of one of the guys in some band in a tartan kilt and a tie dyed tee shirt. If I can find it later, I'll post it, but from what I remember it isn't a real good pic. In the same set of pics I have one of a black performer from a different band. He was wearing a kilt, and I believe a black tee shirt. I spoke to him because his sporran looked like a "Freedlander"(it wasn't) but I discovered that the guy had an accent which sounded like an english one. Incidently both performers were quite good.

Sherry, here (i hope) are the pics: Wow, I love photobucket. They make this so easy!

and:
.
The second one is darker, but it is the same guy and shows the kilt and kilt hose with a tie dye shirt. I hadn't noticed before, but I believe if you look closely, he even has a sigan dubh.
