What I forgot to add here is that I suggested that Tartan Day should be celebrated throughout the United Kingdom, not just in Scotland. Why should those of us living in other areas of this fine Kingdom be denied the colour and spectacle of such a day?

I don't think anyone is saying that no one else can celebrate Tartan Day; on the contrary. TD is already "international" in some aspects, since it is being celebrated in the US, Canada, Scotland, and Australia & New Zealand --although on a different day, 1 July. The crux of the article and survey is to get more Scots in Scotland celebrating it -- just as a similar drive is being held for an offical St. Andrew's Day holiday to encourage Scots to celebrate the feast day of Scotland's patron saint on November 30th.

However, in order to celebrate, it takes a little bit of work. Get involved with the local St. Andrew's/Scottish/Caledonian Society (or start one!) -- most have some sort of celebration of the day -- or volunteer to help organize one. Some societies will petition the local mayor and/or municipal government to officially recognize TD in their community, usually in a ceremony with a piper, gents and ladies in kilts, etc. Or just wear your kilt and "show the colours" on April 6th.

It won't celebrate itself -- and those of us already involved in Scottish heritage socities need all the help we can get! :mrgreen:
