    Over which shoulder??

    Hi,

I saw a link for this recently, but I didn't bookmark it, and it's drivin' me uppa wall.

Regarding ladies' sashes - the Clan Chief's wife can wear her sash over one shoulder and attached to the opposite hip - but which shoulder, right or left? Ony she can wear a sash in that manner. The rest of the clan ladies wear theirs over the opposite shoulder and hip.

Just can't remember which shoulder is which!! Someone please straighten me out!

Out of Thompson's "So You're Going to Wear the Kilt" - a clan chief's wife, a woman who is chief in her own right, or the wife of a colonel in a Highland Regiment wears her sash on her left shoulder. All other ladies should wear the sash on the right shoulder.

Except Scottish country dancers. For some reason, they can wear it on the left shoulder, too.

I screwed up at my wedding and pinned the sash to my bride's left shoulder. Fortunately, I was the only one who knew the difference.

Ya think? Really, you were just helping identify who was to be in charge: your new Chieftainess. Just ask her.
