Quad Cities Celtic Games August 26, 2006
Our version of the Highland Games will be held at the Fairgrounds in Davenport, Iowa. This festival has grown over the past several years and it is getting a pretty good reputation.

Gee...and my wife was just out that way (well, in Clinton, anyway) and came back and told me that that Western Illinois/Eastern Iowa area is really interesting and we ought to explore it more....hmmmmmm.
Let's check the schedule....any campgrounds near there? I expect that any hotels will be booked solid by now...
Best

Actually you could probably get a room just about anywhere. There are campgrounds at West Lake Park, 14910 110 Ave, Davenport, 563-328-3281 run by Scott County. They are maybe 5-7 miles from the Fairgrounds on West Locust St.

If it wasn't for work and that being right in the middle of the only time of year I CAN'T get off, I'd be there in a heart beat. My Mother grew up in the Quad City area and I loads of cousins there. My wife's sister is in Clinton, IA. Her family is in the Iowa City area. My children are in the Des Moines area. Could make a MAJOR trip out of it

Why not? It will be fun and the SAMS Post 1846 will be there in force - in Scotch - in beer and in all liklihood - in trouble. But what a way to go.

Primary reason? I don't have enough money saved up to tide me over till I find another job...this one would be gone if I walked out to go to the games...just can't get time off between the second week of August and the first full week in October. I work in IT sales to the US Army and 9/30 is the end of their fiscal year. They go thru an orgy of purchasing to use up any funds left over before they have to give them back.

Hugh,
We are planning to come to the games. It will be our first time. My girls are going to compete in the dance competition. Can you recomend a hotel near the fair grounds?
Thanks,
JohnL.
