			Non Event

After watching Albannach close out the Richmond Highland Games this past Sunday, my wife had me run into the our local Food LIon grocery store to pick up a few things to fix supper. Of course, I was wearing my Macneill of Barra kilt, with a grey sweater, boots and pushed down kilt hose. This store is in Dinwiddie Va and is frequented by a mostly rural clientel. I fully expected to hear some skirt comments, and maybe a few questions, but I heard absolutely no comments at all. As I was looking at some apples of the fruit counter, an older black gentleman said, "excuse me". I looked, expecting to hear something about my kilt. Instead, I discovered my basket was in his way. I moved it, he said, "thank you" and went on his way without even glancing back. I've worn kilts out to dinner, and to a couple of movies, but this was my first time to wear it grocery shopping. I was somewhat disapointed. I had a lot of answers and comebacks ready, thanks to everyone here at Xmarks, but my kilted grocery shopping trip was a total non-event.

Yes, kilted grocery shopping is always a non-event for me too. Very occasionally a compliment on the kilt from the checkout lass but most times no reaction from anyone.

I've found the only places where you should expect a comment is either a mall with lots of teenagers or a pub after most people have been drinking. I find most other places, most people just look and move on.

This weekend, strap on your favorite kilt and head out to your nearest comedy club. Make sure you sit in the front row. From there its just a matter of waiting for the fur to fly!

Any guys out there who are thinking of trying kilts and are nervous about the reaction....for the most part, no one cares....

					Jerry,
I have been grocery shopping many times at our WalMart Supercenter, and run into the same thing - a non event. I've been there when it's packed with people of all ages, and rarely, if ever, get a single comment. I've worn everything from Utilikilt Mockers to 8 yard wool traditionals with the same result. Sometimes I think we must project an image of looking perfectly natural wearing a kilt.
