Seventh Heaven
One embarassing habit my wife and I have is that we are semi-regular viewers of the TV show Seventh Heaven- a preposterous show about a nice minister (Rev. Camden) with seven annoying kids and a shrew of a wife that would drive anyone to drink. We generally hurl frequent sarcastic comments towards the screen while we watch.
Anyway, a kilt was featured in tonight's episode, the nice reverend got one as a gift from his teenage daughter who was studying in Scotland, and he was delighted to get it, had always wanted one, etc. He wore it to work at the church office (with a regular length blazer and no sporran) and declared that he liked it so much that henceforth he would wear his kilt daily between Thanksgiving and Christmas.
He cheerfully handled the good-natured ribbing from his kids and congregation, and I would have to say that the kilt was presented very positively.
It's still an irritating show worthy of derision, though the reruns feature the fetching Jessica Biel.

I have not watched T.V. in years, but this is a positive thing for the kilt in general. Maybe it'll arouse intrest.

Jerry, In a later thread AckZel found a link to the scene you so accurately describe: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fxvQZbEOX9g
The December 06 UK newsletter reports that "Utilikiltarian Steve Sharp - professional actor - makes an appearance on 7th Heaven this Sunday, wearing his green camo Utilikilt brand utility kilt! He even has a line specifically about his Utilikilt! Woohoo!"
Not sure whether "this Sunday" has already passed, but it sounds like someone on that show likes kilts!
On a related note, I heard from my sister that on the ABC sitcom "Big Day" the (non-Scottish) father of the groom said he planned to wear his kilt to the wedding.
Best regards,
Jake

Ugh! They still kept refering to it as a skirt! And the whole "Skirt is a skirt, kilt is a kilt" thing doesn't really clear up any confussion for those who aren't in the know about kilts. At least it's still presented in a positive light.

Wow, that was the least rancid two minutes and thirty seconds of Seventh Heaven I've ever watched. At least they didn't devolve to the cheap kilt jokes that most other shows seem to go for.
Doesn't Pastor Camden die in the upcoming episode? I know it'll just be a dream or he'll miraculously be revived, but I may watch the beginning and come up with my own, much more fantastic ending.

"You look...brilliant!"
Except that he's wearing a regular suitcoat with his kilt.
"A skirt is a skirt and a kilt is...well...a kilt!"
Other than the jacket, that was a very positive presentation of the kilt. Never watched 7th Heaven. Thanks for posting the link!

I've been having great fun with this because one of my friends who seems to take exception to my wearing a kilt is a BIG Seventh Heaven fan...thus I am now able to taunt her unmercifully.
"So...you watch that Seventh Heaven show, don't you? Pretty much 'must see tee vee' in your house, isn't it? Did you notice that that nice Reverend guy that you think is so cool wore a KILT in that last episode????? Huh???? What's the story with that, huh? Think that HE went off the deep end? Think that the nice Reverend guy just started wearing SKIRTS, huh? What's the deal there?"
Maybe she'll lighten up now that I have a "role model" that she identifies with.
Best
