New truck (somewhat kilt related)
I hinted at this in my "life changing experience" thread but didn't want to say much until my new plates arrived. Well, they arrived today, so here goes.
Anyone who knows me well, knows that aside from my hotrods and bikes, I've driven "disposable" vehicles for most of my life. My daily drivers have all been bought cheaply, driven till they drop, then discarded.
This changed on Jan 2nd, with the purchase of my first really presentable set of wheels...a 2002 Dodge Durango SLT+. Fully loaded, nice to drive, powerful (pass everything except a gas station, LOL), and easy on the eyes. I've liked the styling of these beasts ever since they were first introduced.
However, since it's in beautiful condition and is almost new, my old vanity plate "BOYD WHO" really didn't suit it. I needed something new, and something kilt related. Karen and I came up with a number of ideas, but we settled on this one, as a number of my non-kilt wearing friends call me by it...
Just heading out now to get the plate registered (kilted, of course), then it gets bolted to the new truck.

"A veteran, whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve, is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life." That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it." anon

Good for you!
I owned a '98 and loved it. My ex ended up with it, unfortunately. I really like the Dakota/Durango platform. I've owned three Dakotas (a '93, a '97 and my current '01 4WD Quad) and they've all been great. I keep thinking I might trade my '01, but I really like the truck, it has very few miles on it and the new ones just don't appeal to me all that much.
If I could just find a way to milk some mileage out of it. (If your Durango has the electronic display in the overhead console, do NOT look at the current mileage figure, it will scare you to pieces!)

Man, I thought I was the only one who drove "disposable rigs." Ironically, I also (week before last) joined the 2000+ Dodge Clan. I've been toying with the idea of a "KILTGUY" plate or something. But, I really like having my US Air Force veteran plate (not customizable as it's only four characters.) I'll post a seperate thread later as not to highjack this one. Congrats though, I LITERALLY feel and share your excitement.

Congratulations on the vehicle and the plates, I too have always had throwaway cars, and bikes, the bike thing changed when I bought a new VT1100 Honda Shadow, in 1994. see below, it has been customized quite a bit.
now I need another new bike, and I am spending $1500.00 on the car, in a way I wish it were more so I could justify buying another vehicle, but I cant, so hopefully I can get my car back on Saturday.
