    Kilt Hose question??

OK, I have yet to find anything on the proper donning of the kilt hose. How high, proper way to fold down, pushed down with hiking boots??? Any suggestions? I just bought a pair from Hamilton Drygoods but am still waiting on the kilt.

    Thanks
    Patrick

About 3" below the bone to the outside of the knee.

I usually pull mine all the way up, then fold three times down to get a band about 2.5" wide 3" below the bone.

With boots, just put your boots on over the hose and scrunch 'em down until they're comfy. Don't worry about folding them down unless you want to.

Just don't wear the garters/flashes when you do that. I've seen it done, and it looks a little goofy.

Thank you. That helps. I had no idea on how many folds or distance down. I do, however, see how flashes with them pushed down would only look good on Richard Branson.......Oops, did I say that?

    Thanks

Hmmmh, never heard the 3" rule, but I have heard many times to pull them all the way up then fold them over 1-3 times until they were two fingers below the bottom of the kneecap. That is certainly not 3", even with my large hands.

Maybe I have long calves. I'm only 5'11", but I've never had kilt hose I could fold over more than twice. Most only fold once.

KCW has it about right. Two fingers is good.

Yeah, what Bob C said. Especially those Lochcarron hose. I can get 2-3 folds with my Hamilton Dry Goods Hose, and the WPG hose have nice thick tops to begin with, so 1-2 makes a good roll.

Since we are talking about hose, the only other socks that I have are the really low cut ones, barely visible over my shoes in the summer, as I hate wearing socks.

Where does one get the grayish colored socks that I see scrunched down while wearing a kilt? Are they a certain type of sock? All my non kilt hose socks are white, like Hanes, with a strip across the toe area.

Mine are wool "hiking socks." I got them at a hiking/outdoor shop in Oban that was going through an end-of-season sale, trying to clear inventory.
