we are selling our home in northern california and looking for a new one. escrow should close by the end of may. it doesn't look like we'll be able to afford a california home and are looking elsewhere. at this point we're thinking we'd like to buy bare land and build a "hobbit house". we have a martial arts school and leather shop we want to have on the land too, so it got to be where there is traffic to see it. we will have bout $70,000 to work with. if anyone knows of a place please get back to me. thanks.

Jackson is a nice area, too bad you have to leave it.

I wish I could think of an area that would fit your needs, but I've been away from CA for 24 years, and other than areas way up north, i don't think there is anywhere that is "cheap" to live.

Are you interested in leaving Cali? I have a sister-in law who works for the Calf Dept Of Fire, and cannot wait to retire so that she can move out of the state.

Se came out to visit last week as she is considering this area (Chester County PA).

way up north is an option. anywhere except "yankee" country. the land up there doesn't seem quite right to me.
