My pack base weight (everything except food and water) is 15.5 lbs. That's pretty heavy compared to what I used to carry, but it's what I use. That means my pack doesn't often get over 30 lbs.

The most I've hiked in one day was 45 miles. Yesterday I just hiked 35 miles, which included over 7,000' of vertical climbing. Ouch!

I don't know of anyone else who's hiked two in a kilt. Since I'm no longer wearing a kilt on this trail I don't know if anyone ever will. Still, 5,000 out of 8,000 miles kilted is pretty good!

I'm back in Wyoming, after almost quitting the trail here a month ago. So far I've only missed 211 miles down in Colorado, because of heavy snow; I'll come back to finish that next year.

I've currently hiked 1,300 miles. I have about the same left ahead of me. Sounds like fun!

I'm in Helena, MT, 350 miles from the end of the trail, and I've gone and gotten myself injured. I'm not exactly sure what it is, possibly shin splints, but essentially every step I take feels as though someone's whacking me in the shin with a crowbar. Not fun.

Instead of needlessly inflicting damage on myself, I've decided to call the trail done for this year, and come back to finish it later. On the bright side, that means I'll be able to go back to wearing the kilt all the time!

Ouch! Sorry to hear about that Andrew. A good go though. Now time to have some frosty adult beverages at the airport and go home.
