How fast can I make a "kilt"?

I think, I think this weekend I'm going to take some leftover twill and bang out the fastest, cheapest 4-yard knife-pleat kilt I can for the Hispanic Guy in the Bistro who lost the bet with his muchachos and apparently has to wear a kilt for a day to pay up.

Since I fully expect he'll wear it for one day and never touch it again, I may have a freebie, 36 inch waist, 22.5 inch length "contemporary" kilt taking the term "kilt" with a large grain of salt to give away, soon...

I wonder if I can make myself create a "kilt" without doing any taper. Make a "kilt in two hours? I wonder if I can....

I hear a box pleat is faster. Don't know for sure yet. I assume you are talking, no lining, straight waist to fell?

You have to taper it Alan! It will just be a tube if you don't. Besides, what if you can actually get him to like it? Believe me, if you don't taper it, it won't be flattering, and he won't like it.

Alan, After pleating just eyeball enought tapers to make it work. I do it all the time with my Daughter's kilts because the tapers are sooooo small. It takes about a minute longer. I just made a camo last night for a trip to Minneapolis and just eyeballed the tapers because the camo was making me go goofy eyed.

He's short and got a belly and I bet dollars to doughnuts that his butt measurement is the same as his waist. I'll get the other guys in the Bistro to hand him a tape measure and see.

OK, go this measurements... waist 38, butt 42, length 22.

He's short and a bit chubby. With only a 4 inch difference between butt and waist I think I'll blow off tapering the pleats in the back and just build in curve at the sides by overlapping pleats a bit. That builds in a bit of taper int he sides and is quick and easy to do....that'll be fine.

He didn't wear it at all. Not once. None of them did. I'm a bit annoyed, seeing as the buildup to this thing lasted, lke, two months.

On the other hand, I tried some techniques to make it all a bit quicker and....they don't work, so I learned something from this experiment that will make the way2fractious Homage Kilt quicker, easier and better.
