That is a special pin. Have you been able to identify the maker/date from the hallmarks?

Well, you know what they say Jock: he who hesitates.....!!

Apart from myself, you mean?! Well, I'd travelled up to Oban for a wedding on the Saturday afternoon near Connel by Oban where maybe 95/98% of the men were kilted, but that morning I ventured into the town as I'd not been there previously. In Oban itself, I saw no kilts being worn, except when I glanced at the reflection in a shop window! At one point, when I was looking at the window display at Chalmers (a branch, I think, of Hector Russell or The Edinburgh Woollen Mill - actually, they are now one and the same!) a chap approached me and asked if I would pose with him for a photo. This I gladly did, but it was only when his wife (?) was taking the photo that I realised they were part of a large group, maybe a coach party, of Spanish-speaking folks - and every one of them, wanted their picture taken with me!! I must have been there for about ten minutes whilst they faffed about. Anyway, they seemed very happy with the encounter and, I guess, mine might have been the only kilt they saw out and about in the town that Saturday morning.

Me? Offended? Not at all, Jock. I've thicker skin than that! Well maybe they have another pin like it. It is a modern piece - was brand new - and not an antique or second-hand.
Whereabouts in The Highlands are you?

Hello Hamish,if I had a pound for every photo taken by tourists with me and the kilt I would be a wealthy man!Locals and kilts are in very short supply up here!I wonder if you were at THE wedding at Connel?Where do I stay in the Highlands?Well,if you stand at Oban looking out to sea and the go a little North of East for about 60/70 miles you will find me!Thanks for the thick skin,by the way.

Probably! THE wedding I attended actually took place on the shore of Loch Etive at Achnacreebeag, near North Connel, but I stayed at The Oyster Inn (highly recommended) near the Oban end of the bridge over the Falls of Lora!

OK, now you have lost me! By my calculations, that would be somewhere north of Fort William, but I do not know The Highlands region and am almost certainly way off course. I was not being intrusive, just curious since you give your location as The Highlands! I have a small sporting estate, with fishing rights, not far from Fort William - but I have yet to visit it!

I hate being late to a party - but I too find this pin very beautiful. I love the elegant modern feel of these sterling shapes! Well done sir, well done!
