Thanks KiltedWonder, TimC and pipesndrumsnun!
I'm a jersey boy by birth (accent included...though you really don't notice until I start to talk fast).
I currently reside in the downtown area of jersey city, close to Hoboken and a quick trip to NYC. I was raised in the burbs of central jersey though.
I know all three places you mentioned quite well. I used to work in Princeton which is near Hamilton. I also used to work in Edison many moons ago- so I know that whole Edison, Woodbridge, Metuchen suburb pretty well.
I used to date a girl that went to Rutgers...but let's not go there right now.

I'll remember that.
It has helped by reading other people's experiences on here.
I know that once I get out there it will eventually be no big deal. It's just the initial stupidity, lack of education, meaness, etc. that I may have to deal with. I think the negative will be far less than the positive though- just based on the reaction I've gotten from people I've told about my plans to wear a kilt. I've got a thick skin though...so I'm gonna be fine.
I promise to get some pictures up here when the weekend is over. All my friends have digital cameras and I can guarantee you that I will have plenty to choose from.

Thanks for the welcomes.
keith A., I'm right with ya. Galician gave me a heads up earlier today. I plan on doing the 8th. I have a holiday party in brooklyn later that night too so I'll most likely do a double- header.

Welcome from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan! So where did you get your kilts from? What tartan are they or they plain? We like details.
May I suggest a sweater that matches your kilt, but not in a tartan! haha That is something like you might be thinking of. Check out other pictures here and find lots of people wear sweaters with a kilt.
Good luck, have a great weekend, and wear that kilt a little at home to get used to the sweeping of the pleats before you sit down, or be surprised on a cool, plastic covered seat! ha ha I bet it makes you stand taller, be prouder, and a great hit with all.
DALE.
You don't have to be Scottish to be comfortable!
