An X Marks Clan Crest Cap Badge
Hi rabble, I'm sorry, this is a duplicate post of one in the propaganda section and I forgot it is read only. I'm re-posting here to get your comments.
There have been a lot of inquiries about availability of the Official X Marks Kilt Pin. The one designed by Hank.
Right now we are waiting for the manufacturer to send me a new prototype. In the past we have had a serious problem with the fasteners falling off. If this new pin is sturdy enough we perhaps can have a new run of Kilt Pins in January or February.
Until then. Hank has given me permission to proceed with development of an X Marks Clan Crest Cap Badge.
Thanks to Panache we have already decided we are just as much a Clan as any other. We have our own Tartan, and our members are already beginning to recognize each other by wearing that Tartan. We have our own Kilt Pin. and as soon as we work out the bugs they will again be available.
This newer cap badge is not intended to replace the Kilt Pin.
With that thinking I designed the embroidered X Marks Patch. What I have now done is do a very similar thing with a Cap Badge.
I have a prototype which is completely hand carved. It is slightly larger than a normal Cap Badge that you would buy from a shop so I am working on another version that will match other Cap Badges.
Here is a photo of the first Cap Badge.
As soon as I have a good mold I will make these in-house. There will be no need for us to order in large quantities from someone else. If one is ordered, I will make it and get it out immediatly.
To start, this badge will be made from a polymer clay. This clay produces very fine detail, is easy to work with, and can be made fairly inexpensively. They could be available in almost any color. Silver, Gold, Bronze, Black, and perhaps a special order full color version just like the embroidered patches.
The down side is polymer clay is fairly light. It is also fairly strong but until I have a final version I won't know for sure if it will stand up to daily use.
I am hoping that I can find enough time to finish the final version in about two weeks.
What say the rabble? Am I wasting my time?

Steve, it looks great. My only questions is the same as your; whether or not the polymer clay will hold up to daily wear.

Steve,
I think your idea to use polymer clay is great. It is inexpensive, easy to decorate with applied finishes, and reasonably durable. As you indicate, there are lots of colors of clay available. Even if a badge were to be damaged, replacement should be quite reasonable.
